About the Department

The Department of Commerce was established in the Year 1994 and Banking and Insurance in the year 2015 to facilitate the creation of an enabling environment and infrastructure for accelerated growth of Local, National, International trade. The department constitutes a team of 15 faculty members who enrich student's skill based on their strength. The aim of the Department is to encourage students to take on professional examinations like CA., ICWAI., ACS. Sulthan Chand Dropadevi Memorial Financial Aid awarded to the three meritorious students (Rs. 12,000/- Interest generated out of Endowment fund of Rs. 2,75,000 is distributed once in six months every year)

    • Bridge Course was organized from 08.07.2024 to 09.07.2024. The lectures were given by Dr.A.Chithambaram, Mr.S.Praveen, Ms.A.Deepa, Ms.A.J.Mercy Ba Daffni.
    • Anti - Drug Awareness Pledge was taken by the Students on 12-08-2024 in their Respective Classrooms and also taken the E-Pledge using Online.
    • The II Year and III Year Students of B.Com and B.Com(B&I) visited the Erode Book Festival on 13-08-2024.
    • E-Quiz on the title, Independence day - 2024 theme, Viksit Bharat (Developed India) was conducted for the students on 15-08-2024.
    • Anti-Drug Awareness Drawing Competition was organised on 19-08-2024 and the winners were awarded with the Certificate and Prizes.
    • Dr.L.Chandra Mohan, Assistant Professor, Department of Commerce, Sri Ramakrishna Mission Vidyalaya College of Arts and Science (Autonomous), Coimbatore conducted a Faculty Exchange Programme from 27-08-2024 to 29-08-2024 for II year B.Com Students.
    • Guest Lecture on Banking Innovation and Job Opportunities was conducted on 23-08-2024 and the Resource Person was Dr.A.Balakrishnan, Professor in Department of Banking Technology, Pondicherry University. Faculty Exchange Programme from 27-08-2024 to 29-08-2024 for II year B.Com Students.
    • An Intra Departmental competition, INTRAFESI 2K24 was conducted on 30.08.2024 in U. V. Swaminatha Iyer Arangam. The various competitions were conducted for the students.
    • Extension Activity on Tree Plantation and Rain Water Harvesting was conducted on 31-08-2024 at Kolathupalayam Village, Vellode.
    • Business Communication Skills Workshop was conducted for the I Year B.Com and B.Com(B&I) students from 11-09-2024 to 12-09-2024 by Mr.J.Thangavel Raj, Soft Skills Trainer.
    • Workshop on “Securities Market” was conducted for the Final Year Students from 23-09- 2024 to 24-09-2024 by Dr.P.Karthika, Associate Professor, The College of Business and Economics, Ethiopia.
    • The Field Visit has been arranged for the Second Year Students on 24-09-2024, at Podaran Foods India Pvt. Ltd., Nathakadaiyur. The Students visited the company and gained knowledge about their working processes.
    • Anti-Drug Committee in Association with Department of Commerce conducted a awareness program on Distribution of Anti – Drug Awareness Pamphlets at P.S. Park, Erode on 05-10-2024
    • Seminar on "Rights and Responsibilities of Citizens" by Mrs. Poongodi Vijayakumar, B.A., B.L., Advocate, Erode District Court conducted on 10-12-2024

    • Orientation Program was conducted on 17.07.2023 and 18.07.2023 at Ramunajan Hall, Science Block. The aim of the program was “Focus for Future” to the First Year Student. Mr. G Kumaraguru, the chief trainer and Mr.G.Shanmugasekar, Training Manager and Coach were the Resource Person of the Program.
    • Career Counselling Programme was conducted on 19.07.2023. Mr. C A Vignesh Kumar E, Salem was the resource person.
    • The students from final year went to Erode Book Festival on 11.08.2023. The Highlight of the program is to develop Reading and Comprehension Skills.
    • An Intra Departmental competition, INTRAFESI'23 was conducted on 23.09.2023 in U. V. Swaminatha Iyer Arangam. The various competitions were conducted to the students.

    • Student Induction Program entitled Know Your Department was conducted on 29.07.2022 at PG Seminar Hall. The aim of the program was to introduce the department and departmental activities to the First Year Students. Dr.K.M.Kumaraguru, Associate Professor & Head, Department of Commerce, was the resource person.
    • The Department of Commerce began its activities with the Orientation Programme on 11.8.22 for the First Year students of GEN ZEE TRAINING AND CONSULTING BY MR.G.kumaraguru and Shanmugasekar.
    • The department of commerce has organized the international literacy day: E-QUIZ (8.9.2022 and 9.9.2022) two days.
    • A guest lecture on goods service tax Program was conducted on 14.9.2022 and the Resource Person J.VIJAYASHANKAR MCA., MBA., M.E., B.Ed.
    • The Final Year students of B.Com and B.Com (Banking and Insurance) were taken to Industrial Visit to KSIC Silk Weaving Factory at Mysore from 22.09.2022 to 23.09.2022
    • A Personality Development Program was conducted on 20.01.2023, 21.01.2023 and 23.01.2023 at PG Seminar Hall for Second Year Students. The aim of the program was to develop their personality and carry out in the society. Mr. J. Thangavel, Raj Training Consultant, Corporate Trainer was the Resource Person.
    • Guest Lecture was conducted on 17.03.2023(AN) at PG Seminar Hall for Third Year Students. This program aimed to know about employment opportunities in Investment Banking and to enhance their skills. Mr. Maheswar - Senior Manager, Associate - Imarticus for Placement & Training was the Resource Person.
    • The Department of Commerce has organized a KASCO program for two days on 20.03.2023 & 21.03.2023. The aim of the program was to strengthen their skills in empathy, dedication, stress management, customer service and more.

    • PEP Video Presentation on GST- A Destination Based Tax was presented by 15 students of III UG through Zoom Meet on 05.06.2021. The presentation was presided over by Dr.K.M.Kumaraguru, Head and Department of Commerce.

    • A Webinar on Human Values and Professional was conducted on 06.10.2021 through Virtual mode. Dr.D.Deepa, Assistant Professor, Madurai Kamaraj University was the Resource Person.
    • An Awareness Program on World Mental Health Day was conducted on 09.10.2021.The students presented their PPTs to create awareness.
    • A Student Capability Programme on Basic of Cardiovascular and Nephrology Disease: Health and Hygiene was conducted on 12.10.2021. Dr.P.Vijay, MD, DNB(cardio), Consultant, KMCH Hospital and Dr.V.Nagendran, Nephrology, DM, RANM Hospital, Erode were the Resource Persons.
    • An Awareness program on Startup Journey was conducted in association with Institutions' Innovation Council on 01.11.2021. Mr.Thiagarajan Thirunavukkarasu, Director T.I.M.E Institute, Erode was the Resource Person.
    • The Alumni meet Rebonding 2021 was conducted 02.11.2021 for the passed out students of 2021 batch through virtual mode.
    • A Career Counselling Program was conducted on 20.11.2021. Mr.Francis Xavier, Managing Trustee Outreach Foundation, Coimbatore was the Resource Person.
    • An Administrative Training Program on Office Files and Record Management was conducted for Non-Teaching Staffs on 26.11.2021. Dr.K.Sangeetha and Ms.M.Revathi, Assistant Professors of Commerce,Kongu Arts and Science College(Autonomous) addressed the gathering.

    • S.S.Vaitheeswaran of III B.Com (B&I) had received Dr. A.P.J Abdul Kalam Student Achievement National Award in the Second International Conference on ERIR 2020 on 12.12.2020
    • A Workshop on Investor Awareness Programme was conducted on 16.12.2020 through zoom meet. Dr.K. Prabhakaran, Visiting Faculty from Premier Institutions, Tamilnadu was the Resource Person.
    • An Awareness Program on Financial Awareness on Consumer Training for I Year UG students was conducted on 21.12.2020 which was sponsored by NCFE

    • During this academic year six of our students cleared CA Foundation and one has cleared CA Inter.

    • The Department of Commerce has organized Career Counseling Programme and it was inaugurated by CA M.Thilagar, B.Com., FCA., DISA(ICAI)., Chairman, Erode Branch of SIRC of ICAI, CA S.V Harikesavan B.Sc., FCA., Chairman, SICASA, Erode Branch of SIRC of ICAI, CA E.P Kathirvel, B.Com., FCA., past chairman, Erode Branch of SIRC of ICAI, CA K.Anand B.Com., ACA., Career counseling committee, SIRC of ICAI, CA S. Balamurugan B.Com., ACA., Treasurer, Erode Branch of SIRC of ICAI were invited as the special guests of the day on 08.07.2017.
    • A Guest Lecture Programme for B.Com students was conducted on 08.07.2017 by the Resource person CA S.Shree Pradeep on the topic of "Goods and Service Tax". They delivered alluring speech regarding the overview and scope of CA during the technical sessions.
    • The Department of Commerce felt delighted for the Orientation Programme that was conducted for the first year B.Com (A&B), B.Com (B&I) students on 12.07.2017, 14.07.2017 and 17.07.2017 by Mr.Jai Ganesh faculty of Invoice Point Blank- Business Consulting Private LTD.
    • The Department has conducted Heartfulness- Master Classes for B.Com students from 27.07.2017 to 29.07.2017(three days) with the Chartered Accountant S.V. Harikesavan B.Sc.,FCA.,
    • A Guest lecture programme was organized by the department on 01.08.2017 with P.R. Natarajan B.E., Rtd Superintendent Engineer, TNEB, Coimbatore on the topic of "Strategic Thinking for Starting a Business".
    • The programme of "Role of Youth in Nation Building- Building Bharat"was executed by the chief guest CA M.Sathyakumar ACA., ACS., CMA., Chartered Accountant, Chennai on 05.08.2017.
    • The Department of Commerce was amused by his valuable speech. An Intra- Department Competitions were conducted to trigger out the hidden talents of students on 21.09.2017.
    • The competitions which organized to elicit the talents of students were English Elocution, Cooking without Fire, Debate, Product Launch, Wealth from Waste, Pencil Sketching, Best Manager and Talent Hunt.
    • On the same day the Department Magazine "Commercorium 2017" was released by our honorable Correspondent. The Magazine encompassed a rich collection of authentic articles which exhibited the high aspirations of the students in various domains of commerce.
    • The department has organized a guest lecture programme on 25.09.2017 with Mr.R. panjanathan Director N.P.R Business Coaching Institute, Coimbatore on the topic of "Export Procedure and Documentation".
    • The Department of Commerce has organized National Level Seminar entitled "e-Marketing Trends- A Platform for Digital Thinkers" on 16th December 2017 with the chief guest Dr.D.Raja Jebasingh Assistant research Director, St, Joseph's College of Commerce, Bengaluru.
    • The total number of registration was 820, and 180 papers were presented by the participants in the Seminar. The selected papers were published in the special issue of International Journal of Business and Administrative Research Review, Bangaluru.
    • The Department of Commerce has conducted a SEBI Sponsored Seminar on "PARADIGM SHIFT IN FINANCIAL SERVICES AND LOGISTICS SERVICES INDUSTRIES IN INDIA" was executed by the chief guest Dr.R.Amuthan, Founder and CEO of ARA Corporate & Entrepreneurship Services LLP, Coimbatore on 19.01.2018.
    • The department has organized a KASCO SHOP- MARKETING EXPO for two days on 1.02.2018 & 2.02.2018.
    • An extension activity entitled "INSURANCE AWARENESS PROGRAMME" was conducted on 30.01.2018 with the chief guest Mr.G.BALAJI B.Com., PGDMM., Area Manager, Royal Sundaram General Insurance Company Ltd., Coimbatore.
