About the Department
The Department of English has an illustrious history. English has
been taught in the college since its inception in 1994. The B.A. English Literature
and M.A. English Literature was introduced as a programme for learning literature in
2006. M.Phil. (Part Time) was incepted on 2001 and M.Phil (Full Time) was
established on 2006. Ph.D (Part Time) was commenced from 2012 and Ph.D (Full Time)
was introduced in 2019. The Department envisages setting high academic standards,
develop applied skills, shape the moral compass with high levels of ethics and
values to promote the core tenets of cultural diversity and inclusion.
These courses are intensive and serve as an excellent initiation for
students who
want to base their careers on an in-depth study of literature and language. The
courses include subjects on British Literature, American Literature, Indian Writing
in English, World Literature in Translation, South Asian Literature, English
Language Teaching, Children’s Literature and Women’s Writing. The courses introduce
students to related fields such as Visual Narratives, Mass Communication, Media
Writing, Journalism, Travel Literature and Translation Studies. The Department also
offers a wide array of Elective courses and Skill-Based Courses to allow the
students to lone skills such as Creative Writing and English Language and Literature
for Competitive Exams. The faculty here is a mind of young and experienced teachers
specialised in various genres of literature and language.

- English Literary Association Activities Consilium’ 2024 was inaugurated by the Department of English on 12. 07. 2024. Inaugural Address was given by Dr. C.M. Kanchana, Assistant Professor, Department of English, Dr. N. G. P. Arts and Science College (Autonomous), Coimbatore on the topic “An Exposite Paradigm of English Language Skills”.
- On 26.07.2024 UG and PG Students went to Panchayat Union Elementary School, Nnajanapuram as an Extension Activity.
- On 12.08.2024, Department of English organised Poster Making Competition (Online) on the topic ‘Empowering Youth: Digital India’ on the account of International Youth Day.
- UG and PG English students were taken to Erode Book Festival 2024 to develop the reading skills on 12.08.2024 (FN).
- A Guest Lecture Programme on “Impact of Social Media on Modern Story Telling” was conducted on 16.08.2024. Dr. A. Sheeba Princess, Assistant Professor, Department of English, Bishop Heber College, Trichy was the resource person.
- On 19.08.2024, Department of English organised Essay Writing Competition (Offline) on the topic ‘Anti-Drug Awareness’.
- Personality Development Programme on “Soft Skills for Career Development” was organized by the Department of English in association with IQAC on 23 August 2024. Ms. J. Sheeba Joybell, Soft Skill Trainer, ETS Academy, Erode was the resource person.

- UG and PG English students were taken to Tex Valley on the account of Learning Beyond Classroom Day – Field Visit on 21.09.2024.
- On 24.09.2024 World Gratitude Day was celebrated. I BA English Students thanked the staff members by sharing their experiences.
- Bridge Course was organized from 27.06.2023, 28.06.2023 &
30.06.2023. The lectures were given by Dr K. Prabha, Ms. V.
Kanchana, and Ms. S. Kanimozhi.

- A Tribute to Our Respected Principal Dr. N. Raman, A book was
released by our literature students on 14.08.2017, titled as “A
Tribute to Dr. N. Raman”.
- Faculty Members gave special training on Speaking and Writing
Skills as Extension Activity for the students from I to V
standard of Panchayat Union Elementary School, Nanjanapuram on
17.08.2017 & 18.08.2017
- Guest Lecture Programme was organised on 23.08.2017. Dr. T.
Sasisekaran HoD/ Department of English, School of Science and
Humanities, Kongu Engineering College, Perundurai was the
Resource person.
- Teachers’ Day was celebrated on 05.09.2017 to honour the service
of Teachers.
- Guest Lecture Programme was organised on 27.09.2017. Dr. C.
Muralidhara Kannan, Assistant Professor of English, Government
Arts and Science College, Coimbatore served as the Resource
person.
- Students’ Extension Activity was executed on 05.11.2017 at Annai
Mary Government School, Thalavaadi.
- Office Bearers of English Literary Association Activities –
Consilium were installed on 18.11.2017(FN).
- On 12.01.2018 Pongal Vizha was organised by Kongu Arts and
Science College (Autonomous), Department of English participated
and won First Prize.
- The Department of English organized interdepartmental
co-curricular competitions titled “Revelry” on 19.01.2018
- ‘Kongu Cultural Fest’ was organised on 21.01.2018. Students from
English Department were participated in cultural events and won
the Kongu Cultural Fest 2018 Trophy.
- On 06.02.2018, the Department of English organized ‘Lit Fest’ an
intradepartmental competition. The competitions were aimed to
develop the co – curricular skills of the students.
- English Literary Association Valediction and Department Insight
Magazine Release was held on 27.02.2018. Dr. M. Banumathi,
Assistant Professor of English, Perumbakkam Government Arts and
Science College, Chennai was the Chief Guest.
- A Volunteer Chapter for Aid India representing Kongu Arts and
Science College, (Autonomous) to serve the poor and to provide
them with required education was organised on 15.04.2018 at
Thaalavadi.
